Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 2 (ANI): Marking the birth anniversary of legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday paid tribute to the iconic auteur, highlighting his lasting influence on cinema and literature.
Taking to his X handle, Shinde wrote, 'On the occasion of his birth anniversary, humble salutations to the Oscar award-winning, internationally renowned Indian film writer, musician, producer, director, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, #BharatRatna Satyajit Ray for his extraordinary contributions to the field of cinema.'
Born on May 2, 1921, in Kolkata, Ray remains one of India's most celebrated cultural figures. A pioneering filmmaker, writer, illustrator, music composer, and calligrapher, he played a pivotal role in placing Indian cinema on the global map.
His debut film, Pather Panchali, along with the acclaimed Apu Trilogy, earned international recognition for their deeply humanistic storytelling and realistic portrayal of life.
Ray's cinematic legacy also includes masterpieces such as 'Charulata' and 'Mahanagar', widely regarded for their emotional depth and nuanced realism.
Beyond filmmaking, Ray made significant contributions to literature and design. He created iconic fictional characters like Feluda and enriched children's literature with his imaginative storytelling.
Over his lifetime, Ray received numerous honours, including the Academy Honorary Award and India's highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, recognising his unparalleled contribution to world cinema. (ANI)
