DUBAI, 18th May, 2025 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, chaired the 88th meeting of the Council, which was held virtually in the presence of Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Council.
The meeting was also attended by Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Council, and board members Marwan bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality; Abdulla bin Kalban, Managing Director of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA); Saif Humaid Al Falasi, CEO of Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC); Juan-Pablo Freile, General Manager at Dubai Petroleum and Dubai Supply Authority (DUSUP); and Muna Alosaimi, CEO of the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The meeting addressed several strategic initiatives that reflect Dubai's proactive approach to achieving net zero by 2050.
The meeting also reviewed the progress made in sustainable biofuel and green hydrogen projects, enhancing Dubai's position as a global hub for clean energy.
Additionally, the meeting discussed the achievements of the World Green Economy Organisation in strengthening international partnerships and building local competencies to lead the transition towards a green economy.
It also reviewed the results of the Demand Side Management Strategy 2050, which aims to achieve savings of at least 30% by 2030 and 50% by 2050 compared to business as usual in electricity, water and fuel consumption.
"In line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to strengthen Dubai's position as a leading global hub for energy efficiency by increasing efficiency improvements, we continue to implement pioneering projects in the renewable energy sector. This aligns with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of the energy production capacity from clean sources by 2050. We also highlighted sustainable biofuel and green hydrogen projects that support diversification of energy sources and balance economic needs with sustainable development," said Al Tayer.
