Amaravathi (Andhra Pradesh) [India], April 22 (ANI): The YSR Congress Party on Tuesday issued a strong protest against the Telegu Desam Party (TDP)-led coalition government in Andhra Pradesh following the arrest of former Andhra Intelligence DGP PSR Anjaneyulu by the state CID officials in connection with the case of alleged harassment and wrongful arrest of Mumbai actress Kadambari Jethwani.
The party claimed that the arrest was a part of the coalition's 'political vendetta' and claimed that this action was a result of the 'Red Book Governance' model allegedly being enforced by the TDP regime under the leadership of Nara Lokesh and Chandrababu Naidu.
In a press statement, YSRCP stated that Anjaneyulu was a respected officer with decades of service and he was being unjustly targeted because he had served under the previous YSRCP government.
'This incident further confirms that the police machinery in Andhra Pradesh is no longer functioning independently--it is operating under the political control and direction of Nara Lokesh and Chandrababu Naidu. P.S.R. Anjaneyulu, a highly respected officer with decades of service, is now being unjustly targeted merely for having served under the previous YSRCP government,' the release stated.
The party argued that the case against him lacked legal merit and was driven by personal and political motives.
YSRCP further criticised the selective nature of the arrest, pointing out that the prime accused in the case had already been granted bail, and two senior IPS officers linked to the matter had been given anticipatory bail by the High Court. Despite these developments, Anjaneyulu was arrested, which the party called politically motivated.
'What makes this arrest even more disturbing is the blatant and selective targeting involved. In the very same case, the prime accused has already been granted bail by the court. Moreover, the High Court has extended anticipatory bail to two other senior IPS officers who were allegedly linked to the matter. Yet, despite these developments, Anjaneyulu has been singled out and arrested in a manner that reeks of political vengeance rather than any genuine legal necessity,' the release added.
The party's statement highlighted concerns about the growing politicisation of the police machinery in Andhra Pradesh, warning that this could undermine the rule of law and erode public trust in democratic institutions. (ANI)
