Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 20 (ANI): Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SCP) leader Rohit Pawar has criticised the Maharashtra government over the killing of two individuals from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community in Nashik, including a vice president of Ajit Pawar's party, the NCP.
Rohit Pawar accused the authorities of providing evasive responses and cited discrepancies in official statements regarding similar incidents.
Referring to a past incident in Nagpur, Pawar on Wednesday alleged that the police commissioner had issued contradictory statements, raising concerns about transparency in such cases.
'In the incident that happened in Nashik yesterday, two people from the ST community, including the vice president of Ajit Pawar's party, were killed. We are being given evasive answers. When the incident happened in Nagpur, the police commissioner said something else and gave a different statement,' he told mediapersons.
He also took a swipe at Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's recent remarks urging ministers to exercise restraint in their comments.
'Yesterday, the Chief Minister said that ministers should exercise restraint before making such statements. Instead of saying this, it would be better if they resign,' Rohit Pawar said
Rohit Pawar also reacted after Satish Salian, father of Disha Salian, the former manager of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput approached the Bombay High Court seeking a fresh investigation into his daughter's death in June 2020.
NCP-SCP MLA Rohit Pawar said, 'If a person has tried to seek justice for his daughter or woman, we wish they get justice. But what really happened should be known. She died four years ago. BJP is doing politics. Politics was done on Sushant Singh Rajput in Bihar for elections. What happened to the SIT that was formed should also be told.'
'Disha Salian's father has gone to court. He has named Aaditya Thackeray, but we are sure Aaditya Thackeray has nothing to do with this. We are with him, but let the court decide. If a person is trying to get justice, he should get justice. But if you look at the BJP, they will now start doing politics on it. Four years ago, Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide. Immediately after the suicide, such banners were put up in Bihar only for the Bihar elections. Now after four years, the BJP will take this issue forward because there are elections in Bihar after four months and elections in Mumbai after six months,' he told ANI.
Reportedly, the petition urges the court to direct the registration of an FIR against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and to transfer the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Earlier on Wednesday, Rohit Pawar said that action should be taken against the accused involved in the Nagpur violence.
'When the CM and the DCM gave a statement yesterday, in which they indirectly accepted that it was an intelligence failure. If something is preplanned and the police do not know about it, then it is an intelligence failure. Either it is an intelligence failure, or if it is that they did not act even when they had the intelligence, this means they let the violence happen. If anyone is involved in violence, then action will be taken against them; they may be from any community,' Rohit Pawar told ANI.
Nagpur Police have arrested 50 people, including seven minors, in connection with the recent violence in the city, Commissioner Ravinder Singal said on Wednesday.
The arrests were made following an investigation into the unrest, during which CCTV cameras were also damaged. Authorities are probing the alleged mastermind's involvement and assessing the sequence of events leading up to the violence.
Fifty individuals have been detained, and a curfew remains in effect for the second consecutive day across ten police district areas in Nagpur following violent clashes that erupted on March 17, police said.
Speaking to ANI, DCP Rahul Maknikar said, 'The situation is under control. The investigation is underway. We have formed 10 teams. We have detained 50 people so far.'Meanwhile, the Judicial Magistrate First Class Court (JMFC) has remanded 19 accused in the Nagpur violence case to police custody till March 21. Yesterday, the Ganeshpeth police produced the accused before the court.
Maharashtra's Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, has condemned the recent violence in Nagpur and stated that it is a very serious matter.
'The incident in Nagpur is very serious. Strictest action will be taken. People having the audacity to raise their hands on DCP-level officers and police personnel will not be tolerated at all,' Kadam remarked.
Additionally, Kadam said that ongoing actions against illegal Bangladeshi intruders in Maharashtra will be intensified.
The police were authorised to close roads in affected areas to maintain law and order. Anyone violating the curfew 'remains punishable under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).' (ANI)
