Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 9 (ANI): Rajya Sabha MP and actor Kamal Haasan on Saturday applauded the new education policy of Tamil Nadu, stating that it had been formed with the noble intention of ensuring quality education reached students from humble backgrounds, more than the privileged.
In a post on social media X, Haasan wrote that the new education policy would also equip students with the skills needed to face new challenges of a changing world.
'It is heartening to note that the new education policy of the Tamil Nadu government has been formulated with the noble intention of ensuring that quality education reaches students from humble backgrounds more than it does the privileged, and with a forward-looking vision to equip our students with the skills needed to face the new challenges of a changing world,' Haasan said.

'This education policy, crafted with several distinctive features, incorporates the principles of equality and social justice. In particular, the removal of unnecessary public examinations that keep students in a state of fear, the inclusion of provisions against unjust entrance examinations, and the announcement that the bilingual policy will continue are all commendable,' the post read.
Haasan also congratulated the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, and others for their efforts towards the goals of 'quality education for all.'
'I wholeheartedly congratulate the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. M.K. Stalin, the Honourable Minister of School Education, Thiru. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, and the committee led by the former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Justice T. Murugesan, who designed the Tamil Nadu State Education Policy, for their efforts toward the goal of 'quality education for all,' the post read.
On August 8, CM Stalin said that the State Education Policy (SEP) has been curated while keeping in mind the 'unique character' of the state and announced that the state will only follow a two-language policy.
'Through this education policy, we don't want students just to mug up, but think and get educated. Physical education will be taught along with studies. Importantly, I want to say firmly that we will follow two two-language policy and it is our firm policy,' Stalin said while addressing the gathering at Anna Centenary Library Auditorium.
This move comes after months of protests by the DMK-led government against the National Education Policy (NEP) promoted by the Centre. The DMK-led Tamil Nadu government has consistently opposed the NEP, calling it 'against social justice' and an attempt to impose Hindi on the state. Tamil Nadu has refused to implement the NEP. (ANI)
