BEIJING, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.28 percent to 3,117.74 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.52 percent lower at 10,144.59 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices expanded to 721.7 billion yuan (about 100.52 billion U.S. dollars), up from 665.9 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Companies related to pharmaceuticals and ophthalmic medical reported significant gains, while those engaged in communication devices and 5G were among the biggest losers.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.46 percent to close at 2,002.73 points Friday.
